Round 3 (Regular Season): Minas lose their first game against Boca Juniors

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Brazilian Minas (3-1) in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by Argentinian Boca Juniors (2-1) 92-77. Boca Juniors outrebounded Minas 45-32 including 16 on the offensive glass. Boca Juniors looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Minas' players. It was a great evening for Agustin Barreiro (205-1999) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Francisco Caffaro (216-2000, college: Santa Clara) helped adding 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was Uruguayan point guard Lucas Rodriguez (185-2007) with 22 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Boca Juniors is looking forward to face Aguada (#3) in Montevideo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Minas will have a break next round.

It was an exceptional evening for center Lucas Dias (207-1995) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Cristiano Felicio accounted for 16 points and 8 rebounds. Vivo/Franca's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Barham Amor (185-1996) came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Univ.Concepcion in the defeat. Vivo/Franca will play against Instituto in Cordoba in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Concepcion will have a break next round.

Rather expected game in Belo Horizonte where Uruguayan Aguada (0-3) was crushed by Brazilian Minas (3-1) 95-75 on Thursday. Minas made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was power forward Rafael Rachel (205-2000) who scored 19 points. Forward Alexandre Paranhos (204-1992) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican center Luis Santos (203-1994, college: St.Louis) who recorded 23 points (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) and Federico Pereiras (190-1994) added 13 points respectively.
